In late November at the Molette House, we balanced continuing to work on the house to get it ready for showing March 15-16 and also taking some time to kick back and enjoy being with family and friends! On the practical level, Lane from Dallas Glass came down and installed the “window into history” that we are excited about. This is a small section of the timber framing in the house that we left exposed to show how the house was originally framed. Every time a visitor has come through they have made a comment or asked a question about finishing that section of wall, not realizing we intentionally left it exposed! Now with glass over it, hopefully, it is more obvious that it is going to stay like it is. 😉 We ordered the glass a few years back, but we got busy, Lane got busy, and it somewhat got lost in the shuffle. However, after digging through his warehouse Lane was able to find the glass, bring it out, and refused to charge us anything for it! With visitors arriving for Thanksgiving, we wanted to get the gray bedroom in shape for them to stay in. The room has its original paint, but it needed cleaning, it still had the ram board on the floor from when Charlton refinished the floors, and we were storing a lot of miscellaneous items in the room. Because one thing after another cropped up, David was not able to work on the room until the day before Thanksgiving. So in about four hours he cleaned the best he could, carried out excess furniture, did a little arranging of things, and called it a day! It still needs work but looks 100% better than it has for years. With Eleanor’s nephew Charlie and his girlfriend Lauren arriving, as well as our two daughters Emmie and Catherine, we had a full and wonderful house for Thanksgiving. Also, Eleanor’s extended family with her Aunt, Uncle, and cousins, also coming down to the country to their house, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. That night, we built a huge bonfire and watched the full moon rise over the house, which was spectacular. During all this time we thoroughly enjoyed our new (old) bed, and also the farm table in the kitchen. It seems like both pieces of furniture that Marty Weck made for us have always been here and always been part of the house. In a way, they have since the bed was original to the house and the farm table is made of wood from the house. 😊 After Thanksgiving, we were back to work cleaning and organizing the house, fighting Asian lady beetles and wasps, hanging permanent shades, deciding on fabric and decorating ideas, and generally trying dress up the 200-year-old grand lady to look her best for the Selma Pilgrimage. The house will be open to the public both Friday and Saturday afternoon from 1-5 on March 15-16, so we are excited that many of you have indicated your plans to come, and we look forward to seeing you!
